ENTERTAINMENT MAGAZINE? BRIEF INTERPRETATION

WHAT IS AN ENTERTAINMENT MAGAZINE?

An entertainment magazine can cover a range of topics and such as film, television, music, books and many other categories. Entertainment is a type of journalism focusing on popular culture and recent trends. These cover industry-specific news and alter to attract and target different audiences for each individual coverage.

EXAMPLES:

  1. People
  2. Entertainment Weekly
  3. US Weekly
  4. TV Guide
  5. Rolling Stones
  6. Billboard
  7. Vanity Fair

My interpretation of this brief would be to produce a Music Magazine, I believe this would greatly appeal to the audience and market. With it being focused at 16-25 year old, fun loving and to attract a mass market demographic, age is by far the most important factor which influences music consumption. I have researched some facts based on my target audience, between he ages of 16 and 25 years old -

  • 64% of listen to music on their phone (biggest demographic group consumption, with information up to 65 years old)
  • 34% on their laptop and computer (biggest demographic group consumption, with information up to 65 years old)
  • 84% of 20 year old have listened to music by their phone in the last week (=14% change from 2016)

TITLE IDEAS

One idea for a title idea I like is iD however, i personally feel this is too short and doesn't look right as a title idea. I then looked into synonyms for iD - identification.

From this the one that sticks out to me is 'BADGE'. I like this title as it is snappy and has different meanings behind it. After all my research into magazine names I feel this is suited as the definition behind identification is 'something that identifies a person', music is something that represents someone and builds their persona and personality together. However, having identification as I title, I believe is too long an obvious. I like the fact badge has a more underlying meaning to it, it is something that is 'special or distinctive mark' meaning it is something that sets someone apart form the rest, such as their music taste, likewise the definition for it is something 'bearing identifying information'.
